Disciple of the Cards

My personal thoughts on anything Magic: The Gathering related, mostly from the perspective of casual play. I enjoy many different types of Magic, but particularly multiplayer, suhc as 60/4 Free-for-All, Commander, Chaos Magic and Planechase, Archenemy, Horde Magic, and Emperor, but I also like one-on-one, particularly if it's after a Sealed or Cube draft. I most frequently play 3-6 player Commander, Chaos Magic, and Duels of the Planeswalkers. The closest to tournament play I ever get is a Release or Prerelease event.

I also like to design my own cards using the Magic Set Editor. I take my designs very seriously, as I find the fun of designing is to try and make the card feel as much like a card that could see print as possible (as opposed to just throwing every ability I like into a card). I'm very interested in feedback on these designs, so long as that feedback is constructive.

I really like underplayed cards. I even like janky cards sometimes. I love running cards people didn’t know about, and when they read them they wonder why they hadn’t heard of them before then. Often these cards are really not as bad as their reputation or low ratings on Gatherer make them seem to be. Worse, though, is when even highly rated cards are still not played all that often, if at all, in playgroups. Do players not know about these cards? Or maybe they think the cards are bad, and just haven’t been shown the light? I’m not sure. No matter the reason, this needs to change. So I’m here to tell you: Some of The Other Guys, they’re better than you think.

    Consider…

Chaos Warp is probably well known, since it is only a year old, and it’s hard for Commander players to miss cards printed for them. It certainly can hurt you if you get rid of a pesky enchantment and give them a free planeswalker, but especially for mono-Red decks I think it’s a good idea to consider this card. But while you may know about this one, it seems to me a lot of players don’t know about the next.

Yes, it’s random. But it also happens every turn, and targets enchantments. Any deck without White or Green needs to consider this guy (note how I don’t say needs to run it, just needs to consider it). Certainly mono-Red decks should consider it. Sure, it can destroy something of yours. Well, there are decent indestructible things out there, including Darksteel Plate, tokens, and creatures that don’t mind dying. I bet a lot of decks have cards like these that they can target with it without having to actually build around it.
